I was just reviewing some of the items offered under the AAPC "members benefits" page, and came across the Professional Liability Insurance. I am just curious to see if many of you out there are insuring yourselves against a professional law suit regarding an error in coding?

I would love to hear about any experiences with this and just general feed back. If you do have the insurance, would you please include what type of organization you work for?

Thanks so much.
Heidi

I'm insured as an individual. I've never had to use it. (Thankfully:))

I think your organization can get coverage for all employees including non-certified staff for errors/ommissions, though the premimum much higher... mine is only $97 per annum paid by my employer.

The other certified coders on staff have individual policies as well.

I work for a practice management firm.

I am self employed and have professional liability coverage through the same company that carries our auto and home insurance. I think it was about $250 a year for $500,000 worth of coverage.
