Just got the nov aap newlsetter that states evoked otoacoustic emission tests have changed or revised the code. Since we do a screening it will be 92558. Has anyone else seen this and can i assume i should start using this code immediately?? Thanks :)

Helen, I haven't seen the AAP newsletter, but I received my 2012 CPT book yesterday. The descriptor for 99258 is "Evoked otoacoustic emissions, screening (qualitative measurement of distortion product or transient evoked otoacoustic emissions), automated analysis".

It's my understanding that CPT codes become effective January 1 of each year. Most likely, insurance payers won't recognize new codes just yet.
