Hi,

I see in the CCI edits that 93010 is included in the procedure done unless it was done prior to or after the procedure. My cardiologist is telling me that they are always done after..in the recovery area. I do have the print from the test but no actual dictated reports.

I am hoping someone that has more experience than me can explain this to me; when it should be billed separately and what kind of documentation is needed.

Hi Tina,

If an EKG is done before or after the heart cath you can bill for it with modifier 59. Documentation is required, our doctors will either write the results on the EKG tracing, hospital progress notes or d/c summary.

Hope this has help you,
