Hi- Billing for Intra Operative Monitoring services- Code billed to UHC is 95955 EEG DURING SURGERY- However, sometimes UHC will deny this code and state to use code 95822 EEG COMA OR SLEEP ONLY-
Patient is under anesthesia- not asleep or in a coma, and the anesthesiologist is present in the operating room, however our IOM tech is billing the EEG monitoring WITH modifier 26- not the anesthesiologist. I could not find any UHC policy on these codes. Question, is it appropriate to bill 95822 in this scenario? I have read online, that it is okay to use 95822 as long as you are not the physician performing the anesthesia - Thanks in advance.
