Abnormal TSH levels

Looking for guideance on which diagnosis code is appropriate for low/elevated TSH levels. Codify leads to R94.6 abnormal results of thyroid function studies however I have recieved different guideance indicating the R79.89 other abnormal findings of blood chemistry is the correct code to use and the R94.6 is reserved for radiology findings. What are other coders/facility's using to report this and do you have references you can share. Thanks in advance.
 
TSH levels alone wouldn't constitute a function test, since several levels represent the function test. (T3, T4, Thyroid antibodies). Unless the provider states hyperthyroidism (for the low TSH), code the abnormal blood chemistry if only TSH was ordered.
