Wiki Ahima/aapc

AHIMA's CCS is more facility/hospital based coding and the CCS-P is for the physician side. AAPC's credentials are for the physician side & outpatient services, not inpatient.

CPC vs AHIMA Certification

The AHIMA certification is more hospital based coding; however, in KY UK hospital will accept the CPC certification for their ER coding. St Joseph and Ephraim McDowell Hospitals both require the RHIT, rather than the CPC.
This frustrates me somewhat. I have the CPC and I work in a hospital, but I mainly do ICD coding. Sometimes I do CPT coding when I do surgeries and so forth. All of our lab codes, radiology codes, EM codes, etc are hard coded into the system so we don't code them.

I get no compensation as far as pay for my credentials. I have thought about job searching, but I really like where I work and I have a great director.

Has anyone else ran into the same problem with their CPC?

Thanks for your responses. We are looking for ER physician coders - so does that mean that we wouldn't be able to have someone that only has AHIMA?
