Physician admitted pt to hospital and the same day decided pt needs a pacemaker battery replacement, (he would be the surgeon) would the "AI" or the "57" go first?? :confused:

57 - Decision for surgery

AI and 57

I've always billed it as AI first to show the MD is the admitting doc, and then 57 to show the decision for surgery. The AI is part of the E&M code to distinguish it from a consult code.
