I'm looking for suggestions on entry level positions in healthcare/insurance, specifically job titles, that I can use in my job search engine. I've used "patient registration", "medical records", and of course, "billing"/"coding".

With a BS in Microbiology, I spent the last ten years working in Compliance in the food industry. In February, I made the decision to reinvent myself and change careers. I spent the last eight months preparing for, and successfully passing, the CPC exam in October. As I begin my job search, I see many posts in this forum about the challenge of finding a coding job without experience. Since I am new to the healthcare field, I suspect it will be even more so for me. Any advice would be appreciated! I'm in the Greater Milwaukee area (and belong to the local AAPC chapter). Thank you!

Apply for any and every position in a medical office setting that will get your foot in the door. Be honest, let them know that your CPC certified and what your future goals are. Most employers will work with you and see your CPC as an asset.

While additional certifications don't hurt, I personally cannot recommend the CPB credential. Around here (NYC metro area), very few have heard of it or know what it is. Heck, I had been in billing and coding myself for almost 20 years before I ever even heard of it. I don't know of any employer that requires their biller to have certification. Coders, yes, but not billers.
If you were seeking additional certification, I would suggest you go for something that interested you during training. For example, if you eventually want to work for a hospital, go for COC or CIC.
My 2 cents is that you should not worry about additional certifications right now. I would focus on getting a position and some real world experience. You may decide that certain aspects you liked during training are not so great now, or vice versa. Once you know what career path you would like to pursue, then go for additional related certification(s).

I am currently working part-time as a Medical Billing Specialist and I am looking for full-time employment with advancement potential. I completed my course and passed my exams. My skills have been updated. I would need full time employment to pay for my credentialing exam. I do have 6 plus years experience, But I had to take a break in my career. I have an Associates in Medical Practice Management and Bachelors Degree In Organization Management. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
