Wiki Bone Density study with Office visit

Our physician wants to bill office same day as bone density study, is this ok to do?

Here is his note. Patient is here for osteoporosis consultation for bone density done on ????. The report is in the chart, see report for full details. The study was consistent with osteoporosis. The patient has been on Fosamax medical management for his condition since 2010. I would recommend then undergoing osteoporosis screening labs for males, have him review those, come back for followup then consider switching him to Prolia injection therapy. Patient is counseled 25 minutes total time today.

It appears from the note that your physician was seeing the patient for the first time on referral or for consultation, and that the prior management and studies were done by another physician, even if some of them, the Bone Density Study in particular, were done on the same day. Your physician is justified in charging for his evaluation (New Patient, Initial Evaluation, or Established Patient with a New Problem, whatever the case may be).
