I am a new coder and I was wondering if I can get some advice on a diagnosis coding issue.

A newborn patient was recently seen by one of our providers and the doctor wanted to prescribe Vitamin D drops to prevent any Vitamin D deficiency within the baby. His reasoning is that because the baby is breastfed he wanted to prescribe the drops. He wanted to apply the code Z39.1 which is Breast feeding status of mother. Our EHR program does not allow that code to be used on the newborn because it's only used on the mother.

I have been trying to search for an alternative code for this case and seem to be struggling.

What is an alternative code for the reason that the Vitamin D drops are prescribed?

Vitamin D drops

When the physician prescribes the drop in the course of a well-child service and is not dispensing and billing for the drops, it is not necessary to report a separate ICD-10-CM code for this recommended preventive action.
