Hello,
Can anyone offer some advice on how you would code the following:

Lesion #2: 70% calcific stenosis of the mid right coronary artery

I keep debating on I25.10 or I25.84 or both! I think the I25.84 would best represent the CAD and following the "due to" in the alpha index would presume causal relationship. I don't think both unless CAD is present in another artery that is not calcified.

Thoughts??

Thanks in advance!!

You actually code both. If the patient has CAD and also a calcified lesion, then pretty much the patient has both. If you go to code I25.84 you will notice you have a "code first" instructional note stating you code the atherosclerosis I25.10 first followed by I25.84.

Code I25.84 cannot be used alone.

Hope this helps!
