If a patient has a core biopsy of the liver and then at the same time has an ablation of the same tumor- can you bill both CPT codes? CCI edits say you can with a modifier, but if it's on the same tumor is that true? Thank you!
Your asking the wrong question. The correct question is "Does it qualify for a modifier". About 95% of all NCCI edits allow a modifier, so it's rare that two codes can't be billed together. So ask yourself, does it qualify for a modifier. Doc performed a biopsy of a tumor before ablation of the same tumor: those procedures would bundle.
