Hi!
When you are coding a specialty such as cardiology PRO FEE services, do you use just the dx codes that the cardiolgist is treating? Or do you add all of the other dx codes also? ie: pt has HTN, COPD, CHF, Ulcer on bottom of foot, generalized anxiety, Neoplasm unsp. breast, CKD, DM and seizure disorder....what dx codes would you put in and what would you leave off? TIA

Most cardiology related codes will want an additional code to identify whether or not the patient has any tobacco use or history of use/dependence, etc. They will also commonly want a presence of hypertension as an additional code, but always check your code notes to be sure. I would most likely include the conditions that the provider is treating, and if you get any edits in your encoder that prompt for hypertension, presence of COPD/ashma, etc, or tobacco use/dependence, then include those as well. If you don't get prompted with edits, then I would likely not include them.
