Wiki chronic vs acute

Pt seen for an MRI KNEE, the only hx on the order states knee pain, R/O ACL tear. Unknown if this is from any type of injury.

IMPRESSION: Tear of the anterior cruciate ligament, mild substance.

Would this be coded as 844.2 or 717.83

I would use 844.2, but it couldn't hurt to use both. I code a lot of knee and normally is this situation I would code 844.2

Since they are not stating that it is old then yes you would code 844.2.
