What would be the appropriate ICD9 code for the following diagnosis reported on a pathology report:

Cervix biopsy
-High-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL),
(moderate to severe squamous dysplasia; CIN 2-3)

Being that it is "moderate TO severe" makes me think they are unsure if it truly is severe, in which I believe 622.12 would be appropriate, but I am not confident in that diagnosis code because I would think the patient would be treated for "severe" dysplasia due to the pathology findings.

Any thoughts are welcome!

Correct. Terminology for ano-genital dysplasia is changing. I have the link to an article I will search for and add later.

The new terminology no longer includes "moderate."

Low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion is CIN I
High-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion incorporates both CIN II and CIN III

Our pathologists agreed to coding our cases either 622.11 or 233.1

More later when I locate the link.
