Hi,
There has been some information in the 2006 orthopaedic coders pink sheet regarding not coding 29876 with a 59 modifier along with 29880. Has there been anything written more recently on this? Per Code-X, published by the AAOS, it states that you can bill 29880 with 29876 as long as you use a 59 modifier. Is this bad coding? Is or is this not acceptable? Any thoughts?

as long as you have documentation to support the synovectomy you are okay. IE hypertrophic synovium. If they are only doing it for visualization, then you would not code it, it would be incidental.

I have read something on this recently..I will check the source.
