Hi--

I am not familiar with Occupational therapy splint codes. The Occupational therapist is making thumb spica splints out of raw material and is using HCPCS code L3808. Optum has denied stating that it's the incorrect code. Should I be using CPT 29125 with the -Q code for material? Below is the documentation:

Review/Treatments Provided
Objective Statement OT : Custom fabricated B forearm based thumb spica splints with IP jts free out of a thermoplastic orthoplast material. The splints involved substantial cutting, trimming and molding to custom fit the pt to keep wrists in 15 degrees of extension, the thumbs midway between palmar and radial abduction and MP jts in 10 degrees of flexion. Splints to be worn during the day for activities. No off the shelf splints could be used due to the specific requirements of the joint placements of wrists and thumbs.
