Hi Linda
Do use dx Z41.2 as the first dx in such a newborn problem on claim. There must be a better reason if provider having problems with circumcision of a male newborn.Check out dx codes of P15.6 , P39.3, P74.1 or P83.5 scrotum vein dilemmas hopefully one of these issues is reason for complications. Other problems maybe help if apply ....newborns weight dx P05-P07 codes or dx P50 blood loss of newborn or dx P74 potassium not in balances. Dx N47.3 deficient foreskin or see dx block N48.
I hope helped you

Our physicians perform circumcisions either before the baby is discharged from the hospital or at their 3-5 day newborn follow-up. We have never had an issue using Z41.2 as the dx for the circumcision.

I have always billed Z41.2 for every circ unless the doctor specifies a problem and then they are usually sent to a specialist and no circ is done by the ob/gyn doctor. My concern is with the providers that I have the responsibility posting charges for state N47.1 is the main reason for all of the baby boys circs.

I have always billed Z41.2 for routine circumcisions but I needed reassurance that I was coding these claims correctly, I have been doing revenue for the last couple years and just wanted to make sure there wasn't any updates that state that N47.1 would be the dx of choice. Thanks for your input. Linda
