Hi Everyone,

I need some expert advice on the correct coding for a visit whereby the patient refused to be admitted. The physician has coded an initial CPT code, however since the patient was never admitted, I believe an outpatient code would be correct.

Thank you for your help!

The correct code will depend on what service was rendered and where the service was rendered.

For example, if the patient was in the ED and refused to be admited, that would be an outpatient code. But if the patient had been admitted and was receiving inpatient services, and decided to leave, that would be an inpatient code.

We just need more info in order to help you!
