ED Profee rx management
When assigning Profee E&M levels for emergency room visits are medications administered during the visit considered prescription drug management?

This is a great question. When we code emergency Profee, we do not count if the physician ordered a med by mouth.

If the patient leaves with a prescription in hand it counts, if a patient is given meds in the ED to take home such as eyedrops, or ointments... These would count.

If there are meds given through IV, these would count on the risk table under IV fluids with additives or drug therapy requiring intensive monitoring for toxicity or Parenteral controlled substances.

Thanks,
tina
