hi there fellow coders!:)
Would I code the exploratory laparotomy if an extensive lysis of adhesions, repair of leak, a small bowel resection and primary anastomsois were done? Path shows serositis inflammation. Admitting diagnosis is perforated viscus.
Any help is surely appreciated!
ICD-9/CPT codes I have in mind are:
568.0
49000-59
44120
00790
44005-22

In your codes that you have chosen the only code that you can code is 44120
49000 for exploratory lap and 44005 for LOA is a direct CCI edit and no modifier can be used to override the edit. THEY ARE BUNDLED!!!

So for dx code I would bill 569.83 for perforated bowel for my diagnosis primary along with 568.0 for adhesions
