Patient comes to hospital and has a pacemaker generator replaced. Just shy of 90 days later the patient is in our hospital again with a-fib and our doctor has to perform an external cardioversion on the patient. So my question is, is the cardioversion included in the pulse generator replacement or is it paid seperately? If paid seperately, how would this be coded? Thanks for all of your help.

The cardioversion is payable because it not related to changing the pacemaker generator. The correct code is 92960-79 with dx 427.31. You would add modifier 79 because many payors will deny the cardioversion a a global charge.
