Dr. did surgery on patient. The patient is currently in his post op period. The patient's family came to meet with dr. who spent approximately 30 minutes with them discussing the upcoming surgery that is to be performed on the patient. Is there a code to bill a family visit. where Dr did not physically see the patient. Just his family.

Was this "visit' in the office setting? There used to be a code for that but it no longer exists... your office should establish a guideline on this type of visit with family members only. The office I came from did just that.
 
Per the CPT guidelines, if the provider spends greater than 50% of the visit counseling the patient or the patient's family, you can bill based on time. This does not apply to CMS. They won't pay for non-face-to-face services.
