I have a denial from a commercial carrier for a hip arthroscopy. They want proof the surgery is FDA approved despite the fact it has had a valid CPT code for more than 10 years. Does anyone know how to find this information?

foxparty,

First thing you may want to do, is call the insurance and ask if this is a correct denial. Someone may have typed in the wrong denial code. Just a thought. If indeed it is correct, you may find what you are looking for on the fda.gov website. It has FDA approval information for everything approved. Also, if you use a certain scope or device, you may find FDA information on the manufacturers website. Please feel free to email me if I can help in any way.

We've already called and appealed in writing. We have filed a complaint with our State Insurance Board. The FDA approval request is their lastest denial reason. I will find out who manufactured the scope and look for the FDA approval on the website. Thanks for the tip.
