Hey everyone! I just accepted a part time remote coding position and it will be my first coding position. I've been doing billing with some coding for a billing company for about 4 years. Any recommendations regarding equipment, additional software, helpful tools/subscriptions/books, or just any advice for me would be greatly appreciated, I'm pretty nervous about starting this new job path, extremely excited but definitely nervous! Thanks in advance!!

Coding Resources

First, congratulations!

While I don't have coding work experience (yet), I've been a medical coding college student for 1 year now and will be graduating this summer while doing a coding externship at a hospital.

May I ask if your coding position is for a certain specialty or specialties? Or are you coding for a wide range of services?

1. The CMS website is loaded with useful information. This link has Medicare Resources and Coding Resources: https://www.cms.gov/Medicare/Medicare.html

2. HCPCS Excel Spreadsheet (Free download): https://www.cms.gov/Medicare/Coding...CPCS-Items/2016-Alpha-Numeric-HCPCS-File.html

On this Excel spreadsheet, you can go to "Find and Select" on the top-right, then type in single words to help find HCPCS codes.

3. In college, I've found the coding books by themselves are great resources for anatomy review and coding guidelines.

4. In college, I used a 16GB flashdrive to save all my homework, coding resources, etc. I do recommend buying a flashdrive/USB drive, as they have lots of storage and it's a great way to access specific documents vs. overcrowding the memory on your laptop/computer.

Hope this helps!
