I have a patient who was admitted 5/24/09, physician billed a level 2 follow-up for DOS: 5/27/09. The patient was also discharged by the same physician to a inpatient Hospice on 5/27/09.

I have the subsequent which was done at 11:15am and the discharge was done at 2:00pm. What is the correct E/M code I should be using 99232 or 99238? I'm thinking more towards the discharge -- anyone?

Follow-up and discharge...

I would go with the discharge code (99238)...I have recently run into the very same scenario...frustrating...but then, this coding :)
