can anyone tell me where to find literature that explains the grace period or no grace period for the icd9 and cpt changes? thanks.

NO grace period

There is no longer any grace period.
ICD9 begins Oct 1
CPT begins Jan 1

The dates refer to the DATE OF SERVICE.

i am in a new state and the manager is telling me the insurance companies will return the claims with the new codes because of the grace period. i insisted the grace period was no longer effective when hipaa came in to play but she is saying in Florida that's not so.

Gammy, Insurance carrier are required by law to follow HIPAA, Some may return claims, but do so inappropriately. You are also required by law to submit the appropriate code for the service you provided. If there are issues with the carrier, I'd suggest talking to your contract person, if you are a contracted provider. If you are not a contracted provider, I'd contact your state's insurance commissioner .
