Helicobacter Pylori is a limited coverage test under MediCal with 'Functional Dyspepsia' as one of the required ICD 10 codes. Functional Dyspepsia (K30) can only be diagnosed when all causes of dyspepsia(ulcer, GERD, H Pylori) have been ruled out.

Often the patient presents with bloating and the physician diagnoses 'Dyspepsia' and orders H.Pylori testing. But, dyspepsia (R10.13) is not a covered diagnosis code. Physicians are reluctant to diagnose a patient as having Functional Dyspepsia when the patient present with bloating only.

what is the best way to deal with the situation. thanks,
