I'm using code V72.83 as the Pt came in for surgical clearance. The Dr performed an EKG and coded 93000. Can I also bill an E/M code for the office visit?

Ekg & e & m

The answer is it depends. Did your Dr. complete the key components required for an E&M or did you just perform the test. If he really did history, exam and medical decision making required for that level of service then you can bill it and no modifier is necessary.

V72.81 or V72.83?

I agree with Juddi regarding billing am E/M separately. I wonder though, if you are doing a pre-op EKG wouldn't the diagnosis code be V72.81 (pre-op cardiovascular exam) instead of V72.83 (other specified pre-op exam)?
