Well I'm stumped again.

Osteomyelitis first metatarsal left foot
Procedure: Ray resection of the left first metatarsal with complete removal of remnant of first metatarsal left foot

Several fragments of sequestrium of the first metatarsal were found and removed, and the remaining first metatarsal was removed sharply with the rongeur. All visible and palpable remnants were removed down to the first cuneiform. The second metatarsal did not appear to be involved. There was quite a bit of inflammatory tissue that was removed. Deep cultures were taken at the outset after the initial incision was made, and this was then debrided down to good healthy looking tissue.

The doctor thinks this is 288140 ot 28120 but I'm thinking it's 28810.

Any help would be much appreciated!

is that the whole note? The 28120 is for the talus or calcaneus and I see no mention of either of those?????

Also due to the typo, not sure what that 1st code is, should it have been 28810 w/ 28120?

eww..his documentation stinks (did I say that out loud?? :D)

There isn't enough documentation to support the 28810.

The 28120 is for a talus/calcaneus and this was a metatarsal.

28140 would be my recommendation.

Hope this helps.
Mary
