We are trying to locate the adult & child abuse e-codes to assign to the victim. In ICD-9 we used then E967 category. We cannot find a good E-code for this situation in ICD-10. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!!

So do you use the assault and the perpetrator code even if it is for the victim? That is what is confusing me.

I know it confused me also, but I cannot for the life of me come up with a rationale for why we would be coding the perpetrator. So I thought about it and I decided that they do want to know who the perpetrator was when you are coding for the victim. It makes sense but still strange how it is worded.

Okay, thanks! That sort of makes sense now, but I agree, the wording is terrible. We are struggling more with the external cause codes than we are with the diagnosis codes
