I have a physician that is going to perform shoulder manipulation under anesthesia, nothing more, the physician is coding this as 23929, unlisted procedure, shoulder, when I queried the office staff they stated that that is the code they used to receive auth, have tried to explain that there is 23700, which will clearly identify the procedure, without using an unlisted code, which will probably make it difficult to get pd in an timely manner, not to mention the hassle. Oh, did I mention I code for an ASC, so therfore, we have to match, and it is presumed that the physician is correct.

23700 is the appropriate code, I would not worry..when it comes time to fight the claim with the carrier, you have all the documentation you need to back up that its not unlisted.

Did they say why they used an unlisted?
