Our physicians want to bill cpt code 99051 (open during federal holiday code). I know insurance companies are not always going to pay, but I was wondering if anyone has had any experience in billing this code and do you notify the patients before their visit that there is an additional charge if the insurance company does not cover. Thank you for sharing your experiences.

I answered in your other thread but if you are a participating provider with the patients insurance you cannot bill the patient. Those that don't pay its bundled in the E&M.

We have some insurance companies apply it to the coinsurance or deductible and the patients argue the charge. Thank you for your help it is appreciated.

If the insuranc applies to patient responsibility then you can charge the patients.. However that would be rude if you did not inform them that there would be an additional charge when the visit was scheduled.
