We have a new physician and they added something to their NCS/EMG report that I'm not familiar with. There is a note stating "mixed palmar comparison study...of the median nerve...when compared to the ulnar nerve..." The graph is one box with both median and ulnar noted. Would this be 1 NCS or 2 NCS? There are other studies on the note, but this is the one I've never seen before. Any guidance is appreciated.

Typically this is considered to be two separate sensory NCS - one is the median palmar mixed nerve (I. D. 6. in Appendix J) and the other is the ulnar mixed palmar nerve (I. G. 4. in Appendix J). This is commonly done in diagnosing carpal tunnel syndrome, in that the physician is comparing the response of the median nerve that goes through the carpal tunnel and the ulnar nerve that does not.
