I have a scenario where the hospitalist discharged patient on 9-29, patient developed a fever and remained in the hospital for 2 more days & was then discharged home. The hospitalist is charging 99239 for 9-29, subsequent for the next 2 days, then another discharge code?

My question is can there be 2 Discharge CPT codes submitted for this scenario & if you have a reference please list.

Your assistance is appreciated.

Thank you Kindly
Jody

Most insurance will kick it out. Sence the dates don't match and there is no new admit charges. Your provider should aden there chart to make the first discharge at 99231-99233.
