Does any one have feedback on how to go about the following situation...
A severe chronic patient has changed insurance and now has medicare. i know that LMFT can not bill medicare. The patient is in no way stable enough to change providers. is there a way to handle this? the patient is willing to self pay but we were told that we are not allowed to take money from her because she is medicare patient.

You will need to have the patient sign an ABN and Bill Medicare with the correct modifier for the ABN. Then Medicare will send you an EOB which will let you know the patient responsible amount. The Patient will receive an EOB which will infirm her the amount owed to provider. You can go to the Medicare website to download the ABN form. This must be filled out and read out loud to the patient and signed before service is rendered.
