Just curious- Are surgical consent forms included in medical record requests? I received denials from UHCCP requesting medical records. I sent medical records online and received denials from Optum stating "Not supported. The submitted records do not contain a signed surgical consent form" I thought this was an error but called and was told these need to be submitted. I bill for a pediatric surgeon. Any thoughts?

My personal opinion is that many reviewers on the insurance end are looking for reasons not to pay a claim. I do whatever is needed to not give them that reason. I don't see why the surgical consent form is needed in most cases, but if they want it in order to pay, then I will send.
