Medicare advantage plans say they go according to Medicare guidelines. If my jurisdiction is Noridian and Noridian Medicare does not consider an ICD 10 code I87.2 as a supporting diagnosis code for the services we are billing. Does the plan go according to the local LCD or the CMS guidelines for Venous Insufficiency? The CMS webiste does consider I87.2 a supporting diagnosis code. I was under the impression we go according to our local. My provider has spoken with other people (whoi, I dont know ) that say we could use this dx code. When I spoke with a rep at MDX Hawaii they said CMS guidelines. Which is correct - do we use CMS guidelines for Medicare advantage plans regardless of the local guidelines?
