I have an op note with bilateral menisectomies and the first knee looked to me to be a bit more extensive than simply a menisectomy. What do I need to look for in order to differentiate between the two?

For bilateral menisectomies 29880 dr removes torn fragments, and in bilateral repairs 29883 you just repair the tears with sutures you dont remove anything.

For a menisectomy you will see words like, debride, excise, shaving.
For a repair you could see some of those words above but then you should see something with a suture, anchor, fiberwire, etc that the surgeon used for a repair.
