what modifier would be used for attempted ESI the needle was put in the space but no medicine was injected due to bone spurs
 
Take a look at 73 for the ASC if no blocks were administered..and 74 if they were... The physician would report 53. Hope that helps..

If they had an IV sedation, you would use modifier 74 - "Discontinued outpatient hospital/ASC procedure after administration of anesthesia"

The physician would report modifier 53 for the discontinued procedure.
