Wiki Mulitple Thombectomies

Thrombectomies performed of superficial femoral artery and popliteal artery, thrombectomy of profunda, thrombectomyof common femoral aertery and iliac artery. Can this be coded as 34201, 34201-59, 34201-59, 34201-59? This was all on the left side.

All the -59s are not valid. The 34201 is coded once for each leg. If supported by documentation, you could code the mod -22 for complex. Since he did multiples the payer may pay a little more but don't hold your breath

34201 Embolectomy or thrombectomy, with or without catheter; femoropopliteal, aortoiliac artery, by leg incision

If this was all performed via one groin incision and one arteriotomy, then I would code 34201 only once.

I have a question about coding thrombectomies...if supported wouldn't you also code 37184-37186 along with 34201? We have a new cardiologist who is doing thrombectomies, just want to make sure I am coding correctly
