We are wondering if we are permitted to bill for these three Prolonged services under our Drug & Alcohol License. We are not a licensed Mental Health Provider but we have an on-staff Psychiatrist and Psych CRNP that are interested in billing these codes via TeleHealth in an outpatient behavioral health setting.
90833
90836
90838
Please advise.

Hi Brad
Yes can bill these CPT codes add modifier 95 if video or telehealth. Add modifier 93 if phone call. Ensure put amount of minutes on medical documentation for that day of treatment, describe problem, care, meds using and current dx codes. Ensure the patient name Etc on record & ,add patient statement gave permission for this mode of care. Also add modifier to define type of professional AJ, AH,AF Etc.--- check HCPCS manual. Both staff mentioned above can use any CPT code. Check out the call/phone CPT of 99441-99443, must have at least 5 to 15 minutes of care to bill and noted in medical documentation. check with your payor contracts or credentialing to see if those CPT covered. Oh yes if have video care and it konks out, just add in note transferring to phone due to problem. Then phone patient but document it .
Psychotherapy without medical evaluation and management services are reported as 90832, 90834 and 90837. Psychotherapy with medical evaluation and management services are reported with codes for E/M services plus a psychotherapy add-on code (90833; 90836; 90838). documentation should support medical dx of chronic conditions if pt suffers with these issues too
I hope helped you
