My question is regarding proper diagnosis coding for inpatient neonatal stay.
Alot of the neonatal diagnosis codes are by age from newborn to 28 days.
But if the newborn stays past the 28 days, are we supposed to change the diagnosis from the newborn codes in the midst of the hospital stay? I have always thought the admit codes would stay with the hospital visit throughout the hospital stay until discharge. Should I be changing them once the newborn is over 28 days and still inpatient? thank you for your advice.
