Does anyone use My Avatar as their behavioral health system? I'm trying to understand the "Billing Diagnosis" section that the providers use in their E/M visits.

We use MyAvatar at my place of work. It's my understanding is that the Billing Diagnosis section auto populates with the diagnoses on the diagnosis form for that particular episode of care. The diagnosis form can be found under the Clinical tab.

What do you do if a provider enters the wrong diagnosis code in the billing diagnosis, or the primary diagnosis entered is incorrect? Once the note has been finalized, it goes right to the claim, and a change can't be made.

At my company, much of our work involves correcting rejections and denials. So, once those incorrect diagnosis codes have been denied, we go in make the appropriate corrections, whether that's creating a new diagnosis form (you may need to request access to do this), voiding the incorrect code, or resequencing the codes.

So you just wait for a denial before making a correction? What if there is no denial, but the codes are incorrect? For example, if a provider bills F31.9 and F33.9 on the claim, and it's paid without a denial?

Do you then correct the diagnosis form to include an updated date of service and the correct codes for the next service date?
