For a new patient I submitted 99203-25 and 96120(this is for the ImPACT testing,a computer based neuropsych test for concussion management as well as the interpretation).
96120 was denied for the following:
"Service is incidental or mutally exclusive to the primary procedure. This coding practice is inconsistent with current NCCI coding protocol."

This is the first time this combination has been denied. I am a bit unsure as to what other options I could attempt.

Any thoughts or guidance would be greatly appreciated!!

The 96120 column 2 code is bundled by the NCCI edits into the 99203 column 1 code. The modifier would need to be appended to the 96120 code, not the E/M code.

The documentation would need to support that the neuropsych testing was separate and distinct from the E/M service, i.e. not part of the neuro - psych physical exam.
