I am going to try and make this make sense because i am so confused. Right now our coders are coding swing beds as 99304-99318 with pos 61, which are being denied for pos, when i called the insurance companies they said the cpt needs to match the cpt and we should be coding it with pos 31 even though we are not a "nursing facility" back in 2024 the coders were coding inpt cpt codes with pos 61 the insurance companies were paying but an audit was done and they took all their money back. i have to go though all of these old claims and submit corrected claims but i dont want to mess anything up and i keep seeing mixed answers on the internet.

our doctors are hospitalist, we work out of a regular hospital not a nursing facility.

99309 pos 61 gets denied
99232 pos 61 gets denied
99309 pos 31 gets paid

Swing Bed is skilled nursing and billed as such. POS 31 is correct. 99304-99316 is the code range you will use. 99318 was deleted 1/1/23. I'm not sure how helpful this is since your post is old, sorry about that.
