The new updated CPT codes for Nursing Home Visits is quite confusing for prolonged visits (non face to face). Our providers perform several hours of additional care (updated meds, pain management, chart review, admitting the ER etc). Previously we would bill CPT 99358 for these services, however, in 2023 Medicare has made this code inactive. They are now using G0317 for prolonged visit (non face to face) however, it has several criteria in order to bill (bill 1 day prior to visit and day of visit and up to 3 days after visit) totally 85 minutes. This just doesn't work for providers who faciliate transferring NH residents to the ER, fielding phone calls from NH staff regarding pain management issues/medication changes etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I have done some really deep dive research but I am not coming up with much. Thanks in advance!
