Hi,
I have a pregnant pt with Thrombocytopenia which is being managed by the hemotologist who is running the labs and prescribing the meds. Per the OB GYN documentation they are aware of the condition and monitoring via reports from the hematologist and providing medical advise to the pt regarding the condition. Our providers have been coding these with a V22.1 but in my opinion they should be coding with the 649.33 and 287.5 but I am not quite sure that I am correct because they are not managing. I feel that because they are reviewing reports and monitioring that way they should diagnose this condition.

Please give me your opinions!!

Thanks.

You are exactly right with those cpt codes. That is exactly how we cwould code it under those circumstances. It should not be coded with a v22
