I recently decided to try to find a remote coding position since my current employment is slowly becoming a part time job due to one of the providers retiring. I need a full-time position with benefits, because I am the only income, so this now makes my search harder. I would love to work at a hsp/facility, but they require CCS and I am currently studying for that exam. However until I obtain it, I'm mostly out of luck!

Since facility coding may have to wait, I have looked into other remote companies. I've read reviews from former employees mentioning if there is no work or your contract with a provider is stopped then you are out of luck. I am the only income in my house, so I need a guarantee paycheck with benefits. So I have held off on applying to any of those companies.

Has anyone else had any good results with these remote coding positions offered by these large companies that advertise that they provide services all over the country? It just doesn't seem to be too reliable, and I need a guaranteed position that won't disappear after a month.

Thanks!

I work remotely- my company started out in-office, but has expanded quite a bit over the years and now nearly everyone works remotely and we have coders and other billing staff from all over the US. I can't speak for other companies, but I've never had any worry about running out of work. They have long term contracts with large hospital systems, and if a contract ends without renewal, they always have another team to shift coders to.

Give it a shot! The nice thing about working in a larger company now is the sense of security as well as the opportunities. I've gone from customer service, to insurance billing, to a coder, to coding lead, to now being an Epic trainer and workflow specialist in the past 10 years. I've been able to experience coding for multiple specialties and work in different EHRs. Don't be afraid to ask in an interview any of your concerns so you can make sure it is the right fit for you. Good luck!
