PARAVERTEBRAL/PARASPINOUS INJECTION AT C7

PRE-OPERATIVE DIAGNOSIS: M47.813
INDICATIONS: Neck pain

DESCRIPTION OF PROCEDURE: After informed consent was obtained, the patient was brought to the procedure room and placed on the procedure table in the prone position. The back of the neck was prepped and draped in the usual sterile surgical fashion. Using fluoroscopy, the spinous process of C7 was located. I advanced a 25-gauge 1/2 inch needle downward toward C7. I then injected an equally divided mixture of 1 mL of 0.5% Marcaine and 0.5 mL of 40mg/mL Kenalog on the left and right side of the spinous process of C7. The needle was removed and a Band-Aid was placed on the injection sites. Patient tolerated this procedure well and there were no complications.

Fluoroscopic Time: 0-1 Minute
PRE-OPERATIVE PAIN SCORE: 4/10
POST-OPERATIVE PAIN SCORE: 4/10 Heart Rate: 79

Thank you

consider 20550; vertebral spinous process is the attachement site of several ligaments and muscles; cervical spinal muscles, such as splenis capitus, spinalis and trapezius muscles attach to the C7 spinous process. Procedure note does not support that a paravertebral facet joint injection was performed
